blood. We both played for the jersey and the very proud tradition my whanau who include Tonga Mahuta, Pop Raihe, Harry Waikai, Rick Muru.

Re: New Zealand Maori Invitation XIII to play Murri Queensland Indigenous Side.
New Zealand Maori Rugby League chairman John Devonshire is delighted NRL players Sam Rapira, Bodene Thompson and Charlie Gubb have made themselves available for the NZ Maori side and their two match series against the visiting Murri Queensland Indigenous side. "We also had Adam Blair from the West Tigers and Api Pewhairangi from the Parramatta Eels but Adam needs off season surgery and Api has been selected to play in the world cup for Ireland through his mothers ancestry."
The experience these three bring to the side will be a huge boost and along with New South Wales Cup players Steve Waetford, Kurt Kara and Scott Jones, this too will also help the cause.
It's a good mix with young Warriors Holden Cup player Kouma Samson and Waikato teenager Hamiora Mihaka also being named in the side. Mihaka has had a huge season with his championship winning club side Taniwharau, representing Waikato and his zone Waicoa Bay, attending the Universities World Cup in England with the NZ Students and now the NZ Maori team. The nineteen year old fullback or centre certainly will relish the opportunity to rub shoulders with these higher skilled players.
Maori rugby league has a huge history in New Zealand rugby league plus the numbers that play the game around the country at all levels, especially south of Auckland where the Maori communities exist, places such as Huntly in the Waikato, Waitara in Taranaki, Gisborne Tairawhiti, Te Awa Kairangi in Wellington. It is an awesome opportunity to build relationships with our Aboriginal Indigenous brothers.
The Murri People are part of the Artie Beeston Foundation, named after one of Australia's finest players obviously of Aboringal descent. Beetson's sons along with former NRL stars Tony Currie and Nathan Black lock will be part of the Queensland entourage.

The Polyfest now is massive with the practises of each specific cultural item back then it was known as the intersecs. Back in the seventies late seventies to be exact there were the intersecs held at St.Stephens back in the days when it was an all boyz school. Our head boy was Temuera Morrison. He was a cool leader he and his cousin Hiwaroa were members of our Polynesian group

Turangawaewae rugby league.  My first rugby league club. I've played for club most of my life.

I then played for Taniwharau,  Otahuhu. Then had stint of playing the other code for Taupiri rugby.

Now I'm back playing for Turangawawae Rugby League. A non playing member obviously.

The Māori have had a wonderful record of beating international touring teams over the years. In 1983 they visited Britain and a side containing future Kiwis stars like Hugh McGahan, Dean Bell and Clayton Friend proved too strong for the amateur opposition they played. For many years, the Māori have competed in the Pacific Cup alongside other teams with a strong presence of New Zealand-based players—Samoa, Tonga and the Cook Islands, so they thought it was right they should have the opportunity to follow these teams to the World Cup. The invitation to the Māori to take part in the 2000 World Cup came about as a result of promises made to them by the defunct Super League International Board at the height of the Super League war that tore the game apart in the southern hemisphere.

 

The historic waka (canoe) Te Winika, seen here on the Waikato River in 1971, was restored by a team of carvers led by Piri Poutapu in the 1930s. Poutapu, who had a carving school at Tūrangawaewae marae, researched Waikato carving styles and carved the bow, figurehead, sternpost and sides. In 1973 the Māori queen, Dame Te Ātairangikaahu, gifted Te Winika to Waikato Museum.

Steven Adams (born 28 July 1993) is a New Zealand professional basketball player who currently plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder of the National Basketball Association (NBA). After playing college basketball for the Pittsburgh Panthers, he was labeled a top international prospect for the NBA.^[1] Adams was selected by the Thunder with the 12th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft
